If you've never hunted with a double flinter shotgun you don't know what fun is. I have a French made Blettitet made in 1745 and the last time I shot it I brought down a grouse, plucked and ate the damn thing. Very tasty. My shotgun is light enough to point like a pistol. I'm ready to retire it because I no longer trust the 250 year old barrels.

I'm thinking about getting the one in the ad below, even though it weighs 7.3 pounds. I really love shooting flinters and have 6 or 7 originals, including a Pennsylvania full stock and, a flint pistol made in Dublin, and of course the R.H.R. Bissell Highlander. But I want a flint double gun to go after Texas wild turkeys.

What do you think? (other than I'm nuts) I'm saving my Saiga .12 gage AK and ammo for zombies.

Looks like a great collector weapon but I don't think I'd want to actually test those ancient barrels. You could wind up with a face full of exploded metal fragments.

... NO, NO, ... these are brand new, made with modern steel. The barrels are thick like muskets and can easily handle heavy charges. I will retire my old original with its thinner ancient barrels.

There is a healthy cottage industry in the U.K. (and probably growing) napping good old English gun flints just like in the old days. I can even buy them packaged in various desired sizes at the local gun store.

If anything, the flinters seem to be even more dependable than cap locks because of caps not fitting properly on varying sized nipples.

The only thing I might do is modify the triggers to get more separation.

you may be better off getting an original, even paying more within reason. It should keep it's value. The new one is unlikely to

... Original double flinters are now out-of-sight expensive, in the thousands if they aren't trashed. $750 is actually quite modest for this hand finished modern replica. I expect it to increase in value. I've turned down a thousand for a replica Texas Patterson revolver I paid $250 for ten years ago when they stopped making them with loading levers. This flinter will shoot as hard as a cartridge double gun. It just loads slower and is more of a pain in the ass to clean. ... but hell, it's for having fun with while telling hunting lies.

I don't own and flint or matchlocks, but I enjoy playing with them I have a couple of percussion caps. Black powder muzzle loaders are a lot of fun to mess with. No hassles in buying either.

You wouldnt hyave to worry about where your next cartridge
is coming from.If they cant ban guns they can regulate ammo.

I buy all my blackpowder goodies in Yuma. As easy as buying a candy bar. You can cast your own rounds easily also.

... A Uberti replica .44 Walker six shooter is unbelievably powerful for a muzzle loader. These are not toys or non-firing copies. If you can't hit him in six shots you can always throw it at him because it weighs just under five pounds.

A flinter might be the best pure survival gun because you can continue to shoot even if they ban powder as well as percussion caps and cartridges. A newly made version of a double barreled flint pistol in .58 or .62 caliber is also available for $450.

I bought a blue Ruger Old Army in 1978.It was the most accurate
handgun I ever owned.Cast my own bullets, the whole bit.
If I used Speer swaged balls on a full chamber of 3f I could
hit a beer can at 100 yds.I wish I hadnt traded it,but it
rusted just looking at it in Florida.
