Those who want to drug test welfare recipients in Indiana suffered a setback on Friday.
The bill was withdrawn in the House after it was suggested that the pool of people to be drug tested should expand to include lawmakers themselves.
Rep Ryan Dvorak of South Bend says, “My thought is that if we're going to look at requiring the poorest and neediest of our citizens to be drug tested for receiving government largesse, then I think that us, as the salaried members of the general assembly, should also be subject to the same sort of program.”
Representative Dvorak's amendment also called for lawmakers to receive daily breathalyzer tests for alcohol.

CAREER POLITICIANS ARE WELFARE RECIPIENTS!
Of course this requirement should apply to them.
In fact, given that they have such power to impinge our freedoms they should be tested before anybody else in our society.
It always blew my mind in law school and beyond that judges and district attorneys put people away for drugs every day and they never get tested either.
One of my best buddies from law school who wound up being a district attorney in a major city in Virginia smokes pot every day and never worries about it because law makers and the judiciary protect themselves from the stuff they impose on us all the time. |

Exactly, they busted a King county prosecutor a few years back with a crack pipe in his briefcase, the metal detector set up for guns caught it. |
