Several eyewitnesses confirmed Wednesday evening that another foreign woman was stripped and sexually assaulted in Egypt's Tahrir Squares.

According to reports, the woman was surrounded by several dozen men, who "started tearing at her clothes and grabbing her body all over." When she started screaming and attempted to resist, she was hit and punched - as were several bystanders who tried to come to her rescue.

Eyewitnesses state she was assaulted for about 10 minutes before police & soldiers were able to pull her out and take her away in an ambulance. According to unconfirmed reports, she was "violated with their hands" in a manner reminiscent of the Lara Logan assault.

Besides Logan, two other foreign journalists - Egyptian-American Mona Al-Tahawy and Caroline Sinz of France - reported sexual assaults.

Al-Tahawy, who was detained by Egyptian police for 12 hours, wrote,

“Besides beating me, the dogs of CSF (Central Security Forces) subjected me to the worst sexual assault ever. Five or six surrounded me, groped and prodded my breasts, grabbed my genital area and I lost count how many hands tried to get into my trousers.”

Heather, an Arab-American student attending college in Cairo, became victim of a mob attack as well.

She and her Spanish & Swedish roommates decided to join crowds marking the 1-year anniversary of the Egyptian Spring revolution. While in Tahrir square, she and her roommates were surrounded by a mob of men who knocked them to the ground and pulled their pants off. Then, in Heather's words, they "started fighting over who was going to do what.”

"...after the men pulled (our) pants off, they continued to grab and grope our bodies. It is disgusting. They put fingers up my ass!”

Luckily the three were pulled to safety by an Egyptian man and his wife, who took them out of the square.

Sexual harassment of women in Egypt has been increasing, as have reports of women being grabbed and groped. *

According to a 2008 survey, 98% of foreign women and 83 percent of Egyptian women reported they had experienced sexual harassment in Egypt. At the same time, 62% of Egyptian men admitted to harassing women; 53 percent of Egyptian men faulted women for “bringing it on.”.
