Finally, SeaFrance the loss-making french pirate shipping company is no more amid accusations that a branch of the CFDT union had effectively taken over the management of the firm and was running a “mafia-style” operation. Among other allegations, the CFDT is reported to have hired unqualified members of a local football team, used intimidation against rival unions and the local press and been involved in a multimillion-euro scam involving duty-free alcohol and cigarettes. Finally, The English Channel is clear of these third-rate mickey-mouse jokers, smugglers and spivs, leaving the way open for the Channel crossing to be operated by good, properly run British shipping companies, as it should be. Au revoir les armateurs amateur!

Sarkozy on the rack as SeaFrance goes into liquidation.

The French ferry firm SeaFrance went into official liquidation today after the EU commission ruled a bailout by the French government was illegal – with about 800-1000 jobs at stake.

In four months' time the poison dwarf faces a presidential election, and this is only one disaster in what is turning out to be an industrial meltdown. Heavy job cuts are expected from a number of businesses, and with unemployment standing at a twelve-year high, this is bound to have an electoral impact.

Ironically, though, Sarkozy has been meeting Merkel in Berlin talking about the need "to boost European growth and competitiveness". Yet Merkel is not exactly helping: "We want to make clear with a combination of solid finances and growth stimulus that we are not only committed to preserving the euro but that we also want a strong, modern and competitive Europe," she says.

With this line of rhetoric, the Socialists now look electable, with Francois Hollande currently leading Sarkozy in the opinion polls. And four months is plenty of time for things to get much, much worse.

"The English Channel is clear of these third-rate mickey-mouse jokers, smugglers and spivs"

Love it - K :D

And just for my edification what is the formal definition of a 'spiv' - I've come across it my readings and obviously a derogatory term.

I wasn't aware that you don't use that term across the pond. It goes back a long way and is used quite a lot in British English, often when refering to kermits, wops and spics. Very apt, I find.

Sort of like a Cockney nigger I suppose :D

That just comes after the Airpus quagmire.

We have a Seafrance ferry-boat stranded in the Dunkirk harbour since years. It is just in front of the University, I see it everyday.

I sailed on Seafrance, the problem was that no ferry was the same interior design. some were beautiful, others cheap looking.

Don't be surprised to see it disappear soon. It's probably full of asbestos and will towed to Hartlepool for scrapping by the experts.

The SeaFrance spivs were trying to stitch up a scam along with their Eurotunnel counterparts (other kermit spivs) to pull a fly one, but got caught in the act, not just by P&O but by their "friends" in Brussels who couldn't even wangle it for them, and by the french high court itself.

The rogue pirates of the English Channel sent to Davie Jones' Locker - best place for em, fooking kermit scoundrels!

They don't know any more about naval warfare than they do about aerial warfare. The French suck at both, and haven't been feared on the ground since the days of Napoleon. ;)

Then they boot out Sarko and get the socialists in, then it's straight down the tubes with their begging bowl out to the masters of the eurozone. They won't go Marine as they don't have the balls to stand up for themselves as a free sovereign nation any more. Farmer Bayrou is a non-starter, total washout about on par with Clegg - wishy-washy europhile who probably cries when he hears a cow mooing, but an unscrupulous enough cunt to go in coalition with the lefties if he got the chance. MODEM are some of wolfie's 'beloved EU' self-serving, pocketliners.

Seems it's downhill all the way on a slippery slope for them, tant pis.

But Miss Le Pen is advocating socialist policies.

Unless you haven't even understood that?

So I don't see why it would be to 'have balls' not to have brains, and vote for a national socialist.

I wos using SeaFrance regularly for about 5 years. I've no complaints. I used the trimaran SpeedFerry before but they went down the tubes. Before that, the fucking hovercraft. The last time I used that we had to wait for hours as the thing broke down in the middle of the Channel. I hate that Channel Tunnel: halfway through on the car transporter, carbon monoxide starts kicking in. Still, there other ferry companies to fall back on. :]

We're thrilled with your boyhood recollections.

But now, for great sailing, why don't you board the 'HMS Woodchipper'?

Whatever other policies she and her party might have are open to discussion, but where the FN differ is that they are the only party offering the French people a way out of the EU. Personally, I don't see a post-EU France being particularly national socialist, if what you are doing is trying to draw a comparison between her and he who should not be mentioned as per Godwin's Law.

My point is France seems quite happy to remain an ex-country subservient to a supranational power as long as it (thinks it) has a big say in it (and of course is profiting from it). But that say (and the profiteering) can only get smaller over time; in fact you are going to end up totally irrelevant pipsqueaks. You watched the result of your referendum, and that of the Dutch, being ignored and laughed at in Brussels. Then that of Ireland's No to the remake. Yet you will vote on mass for the same creeps that allowed that (and who helped engineer it).

That's your problem, fix it or don't.

I just hope your going down makes GB's exit from the eu easier. C'est tout, quoi.
