Figures also reveal that more young people are obese in Britain than any other country in Europe
*It is what happen when you have a junk culture about food.
Nearly a quarter (23.9%) of British women are obese, according to an EU study which found the proportion was the highest out of 19 countries surveyed.
The statistics also showed British men are not far behind, with 22.1% being classed as obese, coming second only to Malta. Weight problems are statistically measured using the body mass index (BMI) of adults, with obesity being defined as a BMI of over 30.
The research, which was based on data from 2008-2009, showed that the proportion of obese people in Europe's adult population varied between 8% and 23.9% for women, and between 7.6% 24.7% for men.
The study, published by the European commission, shows no systematic difference in obesity between men and women the proportion of obesity was higher in men in 10 member states, higher for women in eight, and equal in one country, Greece. Only 8% of Romanian women are judged to be seriously overweight.
The proportion of obese people tends to increase with age, particularly among women, according to the new figures. The most dramatic differences between the youngest and the oldest age groups of women were in the former Eastern-bloc countries of Latvia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Estonia.
The UK stands out as having a particularly serious obesity problem among the younger generation, with 16.6% of the 18-24 age group showing as obese, with the other countries showing less than 11%. 25 Replies to UK women top of obesity league, and men are second EU survey | re: UK women top of obesity league, and men are second EU survey (karma: 1)

Is not a "fake picture", but in fact a picture of the actual McDonalds, located in the Louvre museum in Paris.
Do you think this picture is any better, or less relevant then the "fake" photo? In fact, if you had half a brain,... it is worse. | re: UK women top of obesity league, and men are second EU survey en>fr fr>en By pippin Comments: 5591, member since Mon Jan 19, 2009On Sat Nov 26, 2011 06:42 PM

I wos in England recently and have never seen so many fat bastards before. It is in the last decade these obese cunts have materialised. I popped into Cambridge Services at mid day on a Sunday to get some cash from the machine, and it wos like a scene from a Pieter Brueghel painting. A vision of Hell. Half of East Anglia were in there, and the fucking machine had given up dishing out dosh anyway. Wot a fucking freak show, lining up at the fast food outlets for their fat fix. A bit like Walmart offering an *every-thing for a dollar day*! | re: UK women top of obesity league, and men are second EU survey (karma: 1)

It is not rocket science. Those who decided to install a macdonald's in the Louvre are imbecile. That's all. | re: UK women top of obesity league, and men are second EU survey en>fr fr>en By BurnParis Comments: 26779, member since Thu Mar 13, 2003On Sat Nov 26, 2011 06:54 PM

Funny,.. I come from a large family, and not a single one of us is fat or "obese". The kids, (18 nieces and nephews) all between the ages of 10 and 28 are all perfectly thin and in shape. I keep hearing about all the fat bastards in europe, and they accuse Americans of being fat,
but sorry,.. the stereo type doesnt carry through. | re: UK women top of obesity league, and men are second EU survey (karma: 1)

I guess this depends on your definition of "obese". For example, some people think Mrs. Camels is obese - see pic above at her recent birthday party celebration - I think of her as well-padded. | re: UK women top of obesity league, and men are second EU survey (karma: 2)

Care to explain:
1) Why the McDonald's slogan "I'm lovin it" is visible (bigger version of that pic here), while McDonald's uses the translation "C'est tout ce que j'aime" in France.
2) Why the picture is used as an illustration on McDonald's on a large number of web pages, the vast majority of which have nothing to do with any McDonald's outlet in France.
3) How that picture can be that of a McDonald's outlet in the Louvre Museum while the one page where it appears in that context speaks of future plans to open one ( www.foodchannel.com . . . )
You wish you had half of Simple's brain.
McDonald's outlets in that highly touristic area of Paris look a lot more sober than what you posted anyway, anything with a giant yellow arc would get torched overnight. | re: UK women top of obesity league, and men are second EU survey en>fr fr>en By GhostDivision Comments: 3216, member since Thu Feb 09, 2006On Sat Nov 26, 2011 08:22 PM

Abdul Mudbi, it wasn't foolish at all. They know that McDonald's burgers are like dog biscuits for Frenchmen. The Louvre seemed like a good place to make a fast buck. From what I have seen of Brits, many have an even more unhealthy lifestyle than Americans. They also drink more, smoke more, and are more adverse to exercise.
I think it will not be too far in the future that they surpass the US in obesity rates which have pretty much leveled off. Remember, the US really wasn't that fat until the mid 1990s. Things can change fast. | re: UK women top of obesity league, and men are second EU survey en>fr fr>en By BrasherBoot Comments: 7276, member since Thu Jul 14, 2005On Sun Nov 27, 2011 04:57 AM

We've always drank more.
Smoking is absolutely on the decline.
But we tend to be less sedentary than Americans.
Still Ive got a bit of flab which Im trying to cycle off as much as I can : 2.5 hours of mountain biking on hard trails in woods only yesterday.
More bloody cycling today. | re: UK women top of obesity league, and men are second EU survey en>fr fr>en By BurnParis Comments: 26779, member since Thu Mar 13, 2003On Sun Nov 27, 2011 05:10 AM

3.4 million people in Seattle,... 441,213 people in Leicester,.... Not exactly apples to oranges. In fact, if you're comparing them with that big a difference, I gotta believe there are more fatties by ratio in Leicester. | re: UK women top of obesity league, and men are second EU survey en>fr fr>en By Nappybonesapart Comments: 15352, member since Fri Aug 27, 2004On Sun Nov 27, 2011 05:22 PM
