I'm still holding out hope that there's at least one blog that's not a pep rally but rather a serious discussion about what's going on in the world.

Life is full of disappointments. You might be in for another. Ninety five percent of the web sites or chatrooms on the internet that discuss political issues are simply meeting places where those on the Left and those on the Right can hysterically vent hatred of the other side's views and people who hold them.

There USED to be serious discussions here, very frequently. Now, it's a rare event. You see them once in a while, but you have to look carefully for them and go through a lot of chaff before you find them.

The best thing to do is just lurk for a while, observe the comments, and figure out for yourself who, in your opinion, is both intelligent enough and willing enough to engage in serious debate (there are about a dozen of them here). Then figure out who is not smart enough to do so, or appears unwilling.

After that, just watch the former and ignore the latter, unless you've had a drink or two and want to just trade insults or nudie pics something like that.

A final suggestion: start a serious discussion yourself. Perhaps you'll attract those who wish to have one.
