FF News FF slow for you? en>fr fr>en By shon Comments: 594, member since Thu Mar 11, 1999On Tue May 30, 2006 11:21 AM
People have reported slow FF experiences (well, much slower than normal). I haven't noticed anything different with FF on the server or with my own browsing experience. FF is typically very fast for me with an occasional slow-down when initially listing PM's.
If you're having troubles with a slow FF response, please try to run an anti-virus scan (www.avast.com has a free home version) or spyware remover (www.safer-networking.org and lavasoft.de have free versions).
If that doesn't cure the problem, please provide details on your computer setup, internet provider, and FF time of day. Also describe what exactly is slow.
Thanks,

"FF slow for you? "
Lol, is that a joke ?
Shon, the proper question would be : "Has FF ever been fast for you ?"
But besides that, seems to me it is slow in all the listing commands :
list member last messages, member threads, PMs, msgs enjoyed and stuff like that. |

Yet that doesn't stop you for posting 23 comments/day.
Imagine if you actually posted something other than 7 word sentences.... |

Shon,
most of the time FF works quite well.
There are erratic but not minor glitches (10% ?)
just now, I sent a PM, and the window got stuck for 6 minutes.
It's not linked to the provider or my computer, because I always have many sites opened at the same time, and they don't get stuck while FF does. |

I am shocked! Here all this time I have assumed that when FF was slow, it was intentionally so. Slowed to assist the, how do you say...unfortunate. Really, I mean with some of the stinkies and other assorted euroweenies on this board what else was one to think? (You must know that their reading comprehension skills are akin to a small rock's.) |

Fine here in the Bay Area.
Today, anyway. Sometimes, it's REALLY bad. Sometimes, no problems at all, even "zippy".
All in all, for a site which costs me nothing, it's 100% awesome.
You get what you pay for. |

I suspect that some searches are not optimized.
For example, why does it take a long time to see my 'recent posts' pop up?
The Data Base need only find the most recent 25, but I suspect it finds and returns all 5-thousand+ and the code just displays the first 25. If so, that is a lot of wasted effort.
I've tested that before comparing response times for the AntiFrench account and some newbie's account.

FF had not been particularly slow for me - maybe 1/2 second slower loading threads. No big deal. I ran the avast antivirus that Shon linked to and it returned no viruses or worms. It would seem that a clean computer does not suffer the same slow down as infected ones. |
