A winter storm brought blankets of snow across Europe today, forcing the closure of an icy Eiffel Tower in Paris and causing flight cancellations.
Up to four inches of snow was recorded in parts of France, the national weather service said. Most areas, including Paris, got around half that amount.

Several thousand demonstrators waved Israeli flags and sang Hebrew hymns in Paris Sunday to show support for Israel in its military offensive in Gaza, a day after a huge pro-Palestinian rally.
In Paris, police said 21,000 marched through the streets, shouting "We are all Palestinians" and "Israel assassin." Later, a small group of protesters burned Israeli flags, set fire to at least three cars and smashed shop and cafe windows in a central Paris area popular with shoppers. Riot police attempted to contain the violence.
They had the full spectrum of dhimmi Useful Idiots out, even some kapo Jews turning against their own in hopes the muslims and their dhimmi worshippers won't attack them. And yes they were out and about in the USA while our slimy city politicians tucked their tails like frightened stray dogs. Utterly nauseating.
A large pro-Palestinian protest turned violent in the heart of Paris' high-end shopping district.
A pro-Palestinian umbrella group, including France's Communist Party, led over 21,000 protestors, according to initial statistics, in an anti-Israel march Saturday through the city's luxury shopping district, famous for its Gallery Lafayette department store.

The history of France under German rule during World War II is a depressing tale of collaboration, corruption and subsequent denial that taxes the will of even the most determined Francophile. Perhaps not surprisingly it was not a French scholar but an American one, Robert Paxton, who produced the first serious examination of the period (1940-44), followed by the Swiss historian Philippe Burrin and a group of young French historians working out of the Institut d'Études Politiques in Paris. Now comes Frederic Spotts, a British writer known for his studies of German history. With "The Shameful Peace" he lifts the lid on one of the least known -- and most shameful episodes -- of the period: namely, the role of artists and intellectuals in occupied France.
...Car burnings have become regular events in France since 2005 when violence shook the suburbs of Paris inhabited largely by people of Muslim and North African origin.

The Higher Authority for the Fight Against Discrimination and for Equality (Halde), France's equivalent of the Commission for Racial Equality, said that double standards were widespread within the French film industry. White actors were deemed to have “universal” voices able to dub black actors such as Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman, the investigation found. Black artists, meanwhile, were victims of “prejudice and stereotypes” which meant that they were hardly ever chosen to dub white stars.
This is old news but it is worth reviewing.
It seems like France 2 was part of this stage where a father and his son got caught in a crossfire.

In early 1794 – at the height of the Reign of Terror – French soldiers marched to the Atlantic Vendée, where peasants had risen up against the Revolutionary government in Paris.
Twelve "infernal columns" commanded by General Louis-Marie Turreau were ordered to kill everyone and everything they saw. Thousands of people – including women and children – were massacred in cold blood, and farms and villages torched.
In the city of Nantes, the Revolutionary commander Jean-Baptiste Carrier disposed of Vendéean prisoners-of-war in a horrifically efficient form of mass execution. In the so-called "noyades" –mass drownings – naked men, women, and children were tied together in specially constructed boats, towed out to the middle of the river Loire and then sunk.
Now Vendée, a coastal department in western France, is calling for the incident to be remembered as the first genocide in modern history.

Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Paris Sunday to denounce Israel's "terrorist" and "inhuman" bombardment of the Gaza Strip and call for a rapid end to the conflict. "What's happening is inhuman. We don't want any more deaths on either side, but the Israeli reaction is disproportionate," said one protester, who gave his name as Jamel and said he was an Algerian national living in France. He was demonstrating at the foot of the landmark Arc de Triomphe at the top of the chic Champs Elysees avenue. Across the city in Barbes, an area with a high concentration of north Africans, police said 1,300 others joined an anti-Israel protest at which a US flag was burned.
"The President of the Republic expresses his profound concern at the escalation of violence in the south of Israel and the Gaza Strip," the Elysee Palace said in a statement.

Investigators looking into the late November crash of an Air New Zealand Airbus A-320 jetliner on a maintenance flight off the southwestern coast of France are being blocked by the French government. Safety experts and airlines are closely monitoring the investigation to find out whether the crash involved some problem with the plane's flight-control computer. In the past three months, two other larger Airbus models suffered incidents in which flight-control systems malfunctioned. European regulators issued a safety directive last week about procedures pilots should use in such circumstances. Here's the best safety directive of all: Airbust builds dangerous junk-don't get on ANY of their planes.

Details of the counterfeit chocolate mountain were announced yesterday but the seizure was made at the end of November, when shops were preparing for the annual Christmas rush on Ferrero Rocher. The fakes arrived in France in a refrigerated truck from Turkey. The load contained various lines of fake Ferrero chocolates. Each was wrapped to look like an authentic Ferrero but the individual wrappers did not bear the sticker with the company's logo.
After laboratory checks the fakes were not found to be dangerous , but they were poor quality.

According to Emi, the presidency term has also had a positive impact on Turkish-French bilateral ties. "The atmosphere is not perfect but it is much better," he said, adding that the French parliament made a decision not to vote on a law that would punish those who denied the Armenian genocide. "Turkish public opinion should listen to this," he said.
Asked about his expectations from Turkey’s non-permanent membership to the U.N. Security Council, Emi said they were happy about Turkey’s election to the prestigious seat. "Turkey will be in the European group ..
But I can't help wondering about the timing of this Die-Hard-style operation. It comes a week after real explosives were found in the toilets of Printemps Haussman, one of the capital's biggest stores. Right now, we are no closer to knowing whether the culprits were Afghan Islamists, a bunch of anti-capitalist anarchists or the far-right.
